Over the years, I have always wondered at the great parish efforts going into children's catechesis, thinking that it was futile due to so many parents / adults lacking the fundamentals of our faith. This initiative seems to be a great step towards restoring the laity's (and the world's) understanding of the Catholic faith. I fully support this initiative and believe it will transform the lives of our parishes and our local communities. I believe that the floodgates of grace will open once we start to implement this programme. May the Magisterium give this initiative its blessing soon!

All for it! "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. " - 1 Peter 3:15

I want and need to be taught. I have three kids and they need taught. Our schools do not teach anymore. Our priests do not teach anymore. If I don't teach my children who will? But I'm merely a man, a father, not a teacher. Please help me. Thank you, Brendan

What a great gift this would be . . .

The loss of teaching the Catechism of Christian Doctrine in our schools from the late 1950's has been a disaster for the Church.I hope and pray that Pope Francis will do all he can to bring this about. God Bless you all, Simone

I think this idea makes very good sense as so many Catholics do not know catechetics or apologetics about their own faith, which is the faith begun by Jesus, and which is also based upon reason as well as scripture and faith-- I have taught the faith for over 20 years and I have not found a "loose thread" in the teaching. This idea provides a way to better get the message to the people--and eventually, hopefully, defeat the culture of death.

Thank you for such a simple but great idea about evangelizing our own people!

"The Year of Faith is the Year of the Catechism" – Pope Benedict
Religious illiteracy is indeed a serious problem in the Catholic Church today. We all need to be taught the Catechism and grow in our faith. We will continue to pray for this wonderful initiative.
God Bless.

I strongly support this endeavor. Catechism begins at home. Parents should be able to teach their children the basics of their faith so they must be educated and so the cycle goes.

I want to be taught & am very disheartened when I see communion ministers promoting government candidates who stand for all the things the Bible (GOD) tells us to avoid at the risk of losing our souls! Please find a way to communicate clearly to all the true believers what our faith demands! I want Jesus to be proud of HIS church on earth--not ashamed of it or sad.
